MLB.com reports that former Yankees outfielder Hideki Matsui has been introduced as manager of the Yomiuri Giants, where he played all 10 of his NPB seasons before joining New York in 2003. Yankees fans will always have 2009: Matsui went 7-for-10 with three homers and eight RBIs in the World Series and took home MVP honors. Now he gets to lead the organization where his professional career began.
Wells, Bellinger and Caballero are AL Gold Glove finalists, according to Greg Joyce of the New York Post. Bellinger led all left fielders with 21 defensive runs saved, so that nomination should surprise nobody. Reporter analysis Brendan Kuty of The Athletic says he doesn’t believe the Yankees will fire Boone. I don’t think changing the manager fixes everything, but keeping him shouldn’t mean everyone gets a pass either. If Boone is back, I want to know what he and Cashman are actually going to change.
News Judge wants the Yankees to go all in, as Bryan Hoch of MLB.com shared on X. I’m glad he said it, but I want to see who they actually bring in before getting excited. Spend the money where it helps and give us a roster that makes sense.

Bryan Hoch of MLB.com lists Ryan Jeffers and Tyler Stephenson as potential catching upgrades for the Yankees. I’d rather pay for someone who can compete for starts than fill the backup spot just to give the starter a day off. Make them earn the playing time; we shouldn’t be handing anyone a job.
MLB.com reports that Cody Bellinger won the 2026 Fielding Bible Award in left field after finishing with 21 Defensive Runs Saved. His bat gets more attention, but that kind of defense is real value and gives the Yankees one less position to worry about.
